Spike Studio is a Macintosh program that was written for several neurobiology laboratories to digitize and analyze physiological signals. Spike Studio will digitize multiple channels of data using digitizing boards from National Instruments, GW Instruments, Instrutech, or using a sound digitizer such as the Macintosh microphone input. Spike Studio allows flexible viewing of the digitized data on the screen, does a variety of analyses on the data including event discrimination, spiking frequencies, and data averaging, has nice features for making publication-quality figures from the data, and much more (this program is 5 years in the making).
Previous to version 3.6 Spike Studio was a commercial program, and was used around the U.S., in Europe and in Israel. I have returned to graduate school and do not feel like marketing it anymore, so since version 3.6, I have released it as psuedo-freeware, meaning you only pay me if you want to (with no obligation, so its somewhere between freeware and shareware). If you want to pay me, I will send you a disk, nicely printed manual, etc.. But even if you do not pay me, you can download the whole program, the manual, and all the source code below. The program is not public domain, and no one but me is allowed to distribute it unless you distribute it absolutely for free (no charges for "shipping" or for anything else).
Note that I am now only minimally supporting Spike Studio. Unless you have paid me (and perhaps even if you have paid me), I may be quite slow to fix bugs, and will almost certainly not add new features. So you get the program "as is". If its missing something you need, you can either download the source code and try to add it yourself (I will help guide you somewhat if you ask), or you may want to buy a copy of a commercial data aquisition program and learn how to use that.
Although I'm not supporting the program very much, it would be great for my ego to hear if you are successfully using it. So feel free to email me with compliments, suggestions, or bugs here.
Thanks very much, and enjoy.
